L.A. Wants Vaccinations For Indoor Events

Working out during a pandemic

COVID-19 has changed the way we view our lives and how we do our daily tasks. This includes but is not limited to; the gym, restaurants, malls, and salons.

A few months ago, New York City issued a mandate that required people to have proof of a vaccination in order to participate in indoor events. The city gave its citizens a few months to receive their shots. Just a few weeks ago, the mandate went live. Los Angeles seems to be following in the footsteps of New York City.

This move comes from health experts who believe more vaccinations are needed to get Los Angeles County to herd immunity. They believe with the new variant and the new seasons approaching, there is a higher chance of contracting the virus.

L.A. County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said Tuesday. “Last winter was brutal, and given the unpredictability of the virus and the variants, we need to accelerate the pace of vaccinations since this is the most effective tool we have to prevent another deadly surge.”

The proposed law wants to include more indoor places such as bowling alleys, arcades, card rooms, and pool halls. It also wants to include self care places such as barbershops, nail salons, tanning salons, massage parlors, tattoo and piercing shops.

The proposal also wants to require patrons of outdoor events with 5,000 or more attendees to show proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test result as of November 4th.

L.A. County’s latest health order will require patrons and workers at indoor bars, wineries, breweries, nightclubs and lounges to be at least partially vaccinated by October 7th and fully vaccinated by November 4th.

Starting October 7th, the county also will require everyone 12 and older to show that they’ve been vaccinated or recently tested negative.

These mandates from New York City and Los Angeles show just how determine a city is to defeat COVID-19 and keep their citizens safe. It’ll be interesting to see if more cities follow suit in the upcoming weeks.
