Baseball Season is exactly one week away and fans all over the country are set and ready to go for another season of Major League Baseball. Many experts have the Cubs picked to repeat as World Champions, but that has not happened since the Yankees did it over fifteen years ago. With the World Baseball Classic over and spring training coming to an end, it is clear that baseball is most definitely in the air.

David Wright likely to miss Opening Day

David Wright, the often injured captain of the New York Mets, is likely to miss Opening Day with shoulder soreness. Wright has no structural damage in his shoulder and is capable of hitting, but will no longer be permitted to throw.

Injuries have plagued the 34 year old’s career since 2011, missing nearly 400 games over the past six seasons. Over the past two seasons, Wright has only appeared in 75 games for his club and many are beginning to wonder whether it is time for the veteran to cal it quits or not. The Mets general manager Sandy Alderson does not feel it is time for their captain to hang up his cleats, and believe his is still capable of helping his team win.

Fellow teammate Jose Reyes is likely to see the majority of the reps going forward at the hot corner in his absence. Met fans are hoping to see Wright back on the field and throwing as soon as possible but only time will tell. Over 137 at bats last seasons, Wright batted .226 with 7 home runs, 14 RBI’s and 3 stolen bases.
