This is a skill I would like you to have, as it is useful for engaging your audience for a website, for a newspaper, for a blog, for a newscast, for a magazine, etc. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">What is a feature story?<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\"><strong>A feature story:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">is the news behind the news.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">is longer than most news stories.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">is well researched and complex.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; color: #000000;\">is connected to current events (Why this? Why Now?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Here are&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.buzzfeed.com\/sandraeallen\/23-of-our-favorite-feature-stories-we-published-this-year#.nf48022Lz\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Poynter&#8217;s top 23 feature stories of 2014<\/span><\/a>. I encourage you to take a look at them to gain a stronger familiarity of feature stories. The requirements are listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Add a new web page to your site create title for your Feature Story. Make the <strong>title catchy<\/strong>, as we studied earlier in this course. Place this new page under your Main Menu. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000; font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Interview 1 or 2<\/strong> people that can speak about your topic<\/span> in some fashion.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Include the <strong>5w&#8217;s and the h<\/strong> in the feature story. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Include at least <strong>5 photographs<\/strong> that you could use in your feature story. One of these photos should be the hero photo &#8212; the photo that will reside at the top of the page near the headline, which will help engage readers.
