I am so excited!

I am so excited that this post it going to be about organizing and decorating your office.

Organizing and decorating can be fun, like I’ve mentioned before in previous posts…especially the decorating part.

My family and I originally started clearing out the junk side of our basement in order to make me a small office in the back. Well that project started to go south fast. We have too much stuff we want to keep and it just wasn’t happening. We were trying to make my dad a man-craft room, but that wasn’t happening either…we put too much on our plates. That made me sad. But I compromised and we have transformed our back bedroom/sitting room into my office/makeup room (the makeup part of the room I share with my mom…we’re not crazy).

Friday afternoon was a total blur. I’ve known for a while what desk I wanted, so we loaded up in the car and trekked the not-so-far trip to Ikea, a very heavenly place. My entire house will be furnished from Ikea one day. I love it all! So we walked around the entire store (because there’s no shortcut) and finally, a few miles later, we found the desk! It’s the Ikea Bekant, a curved cornered desk. It’s beautiful. It’s pristine and white and the height is adjustable. I love it because it gives me 2 distinct work spaces. I can use the longer end to do all my planner making steps, like hole punching, printing, and inserting pages into the book, while the short side I can use for just my computer. This is going to be amazing and I can’t wait to start a planner later tonight.

<img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="size-medium wp-image-165" src="http://courses.dc.edu/blankenbush/wp-content/uploads/sites/57/2016/03/FullSizeRender-5-225x300.jpg" alt="J. Hunt lamp on left, Ralph Lauren lamp on right

Continuing on Friday, after a trip to Target, Marshalls, Homegoods, Tuesday Mornings, TJ Maxx, and another Marshalls (all within 2 hours, I must add), I finally found a set of desk lamps and a desk chair. The room I’m in has no overhead lighting…ancient, I know. So I was on a serious search for some powerful yet cute lamps. It has 2 windows, so I definitely have natural light, but that won’t be too helpful at night when I’m trying to get things done. Nevertheless, I found two lamps. I got a silver Ralph Lauren desk lamp for $40 and a J. Hunt white/silver/marble lamp for $35, both from Marshalls. Funny thing was, though, I saw the same J. Hunt lamp in Marshalls for $5 more…that didn’t make me too happy.

I also found a desk chair on that same hunt along the way. It’s clear plexiglass, which completely threw me off at first, but I’m really learning to like it. It’s your typical desk chair. It rolls and has the option to make it higher and lower. It’s pretty great. I’ve also found the perfect height to fit my extra tall desk (because sometimes I want to stand up and work!)…you have to have options!

Everything in in the white and silver tones, which is great too. I don’t like mixing my metals (I’m crazy, we’ve established that), so this was a piece of cake. I never even had the issue of mixing metals when putting things together for this room.

Plexiglass desk chair

So far, this is all that I have in my office, besides the couch that was already in here. It’s pretty empty and still needs some fun accessories and decor to make it more fun. I have a list of things that I’m going out to get tomorrow. These things include:

Pillow or cushion for desk chair

Pillows for office couch

8″ x 10″ picture frame for print out

Smaller picture frames for fun

Pen and pencil holder

Stand up paper holders (3)

Trash bins (preferably 2)

Pretty coasters

Clearly, this office is a work in progress and will probably stay as that for quite some time, but I’m sure I’ll be updating you along the way. Happy Planning!

I am currently writing this from MY BRAND NEW OFFICE!!!!
