Thoughts the NA LCS Spring Split For This Year

I have to admit that the NA LCS thus far has looked extremely competitive. Many rosters have upgraded and improved over the course of the 6 weeks of competitive play that it almost seems like anyone can win with the exception of Team Liquid and Team EnVyUs who struggle to stay relevant inn the league as they are tied with a 3-9 match record.

Meanwhile, the middle of the pack teams are a fluctuating bunch as each of them fight back and forth for a playoff spot as the 5th and 6th seed. A team I would really like to watch out for is Team Dignitas. Despite a 4-8 record, I sometimes struggle to hang on to something to look forward to. It seems like they are still struggling to come up with an alternative win condition that does not include allow Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho to carry. I do believe that they CAN be a playoff contender. It all depends if Jang “Keane” Lae-young and Benjamin “LOD” deMunckcan step up for the remainder of the season because as of right now, they look average. They can no longer be good. They have to be great.

It is no surprise that Cloud 9 and TSM are definitely at the top of the tables of the LCS. These long standing organizations continue to show consistency in their play as well as their infrastructure. This also proves the point that was made by TSM owner Andy “Reginald” Dinh at the start of the season. With the amount of imports that came in this year, Other team owners have failed to effectively utilize their newly found Korean talent resulting in a questionable middle of the pack. If anything, Phoenix1 seems to be the only team that was able to make the most out of their import in Noh “Arrow” Dong-hyeon who ranks first among AD carries in the LCS with a KDA of 4.9. He is also fourth in kill participation at 67.3% and a 15.1% of his team’s deaths. Looking at these stats, he has become one of the most valuable players on his team. There is no doubt in my mind that Phoenix1 could be a dark horse in playoffs. What was a disastrous summer split in 2016 has become a rekindling season for spring 2017 for the organization.

The final weeks of the LCS will be critical for everyone looking to contend for playoffs. There is no doubt that Cloud 9, TSM, FlyQuest and Phoenix1 have been solidified as playoff teams. It will be a battle of who wants the fifth and sixth seed of playoffs.
