For this assignment I decided to use the fashion industry. Within the fashion industry there are many many brands that have managed to get many millions of followers on Instagram. Two fashion brands that have managed to get a large following on instagram are FashionNova, with 20.6M followers and BooHoo, with 8.8M followers. FashionNova has a tone of a playful brand that sells in fashion clothing. They have thousands of brand ambassadors who are also big on instagram and repost their looks alot to gain more interaction with potential buyers. Another thing they seem to do which helps them get a lot of interaction is by constantly posting multiple times in a day on instagram, in order to make sure that people see at least one of their posts a day and that it can bring traction to their website. The target audience of FashionNova is young women aged 18-35 who enjoy fast fashion and going out attire. I think the primary purpose of their instagram page is just to sell their clothes and get interaction from potential buyers. They also try to get interaction from the things they post on their instagram stories that people can interact with. One post that they posted that happened to get a lot of traction with over 82k likes, was a post of many different girls wearing things from their store from halloween. It could have done well because the post features attractive women and cute Halloween outfits. It also could have done well because the girls in the post most likely repost the post on their instagram stories because they were featured in it, bringing in more traction from their followers to the post.
The tone and language for boohoos instagram account is one of the average fast fashion brands. They post models wearing their clothing most likely from paid brand deals, with the clothes they are wearing from the website in order to bring in traction that way. They also use their page to promote concert ticket sales they do to promote it as well as posts that they feel are “relatable” to their audience. These relatable posts have nothing to do with fashion but instead are posted because they know it could generate buzz to their page and from there people could scroll on their Instagrams account feed and see what clothing they have to offer. Their target audience are like FashionNova, women aged 18-35 as that is the age group they sell the most clothes to. Their primary goal is to sell their clothing, but to also be seen as a fun relatable brand as seen by the post they make in order to seem relatable to the younger generation who follows them on the app. One of their most popular recent posts, with over 54k likes is a post that isn’t even about their clothing. Instead it says “friendship is giving each other advice back and forth and no one taking it” this is one of their most popular posts because on instead, people like posts that have quotes like that because it’s easy to like when you are scrolling and to send it to your friends via instagram dms. I think they know this and post these types of posts once in a while to get it to pop up on people’s explore page and from there they hope that people will click on their page and check out the brand’s clothes and hopefully go to the website. I think that the brand that is more successful in reaching their target audience is FashionNova. I think this because they have more followers and more likes per post. The reason being that they have a lot more brand deals with girls who are instagram famous and with that they reach all of their brand ambassadors followers, their followers being the brands target audience. With this they get a wider reach and more traction going to their website and buying their clothing.
